For the seventh straight year, Sandusky Schools has received an Auditor of the State Award with Distinction for a clean financial audit report.

Ohio state auditor Dave Yost made the announcement Jan. 28.

“Taxpayers expect accurate financial records from their local governments,” Yost said in a statement. “The Sandusky City School District’s dedication to accountability is evident.”

The award is the auditor’s top honor, and it involves school districts meeting financial and legal requirements on federal, state and local levels.

To qualify for this type of award, a district must fulfill several criteria, according to the state auditor’s website:

• It must file timely financial reports with the state auditor’s office.

• Its audit report must not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, single audit findings or questioned costs.

• Its management letter must not contain any comments related to ethics referrals, questioned costs less than $10,000, lack of timely report submission, reconciliation, failure to obtain a timely single audit, findings for recovery less than $100 or public meetings or public records.

Sandusky Schools is the first area district to receive an award from the state auditor in 2016. Several districts received the honor within the past year for their clean financial reports, including Clyde-Green Springs, Margaretta, Perkins, South Central and Vanguard-Sentinel Career and Technology Centers.
