Summer Learning

Summer Learning

A Letter from Dr. Cade

Dear Blue Streak Families,

In Sandusky City Schools we value summer as a critical time to reflect, learn, and have fun! This summer, we will provide learning opportunities in partnership with key community organizations and government agencies. This will allow us to extend and enrich the quality of the programs we can provide for the students and families we serve.

As Chief Academic Officer, I strongly encourage parents to reach out to our teachers and principals to learn about the “school-based” learning opportunities that Sandusky City Schools are offering. Additionally, we can be helpful in guiding you to community resources that your family can participate in to help avoid “summer learning loss”.

Please review the following attached information regarding some of the summer learning opportunities that your children may be eligible to participate in this year (Kindergarten Camp, Third Grade Guarantee, Regional Center Gifted Enrichment Program, Great Lakes and Visual Performing Arts Summer Learning and High School Credit Recovery & End of Course Prep Camp).  Through our evolving partnership with the City of Sandusky Recreation Department and the Sandusky Library, we urge parents to take advantage of all the summer programs offered in the City of Sandusky.

To support our partnerships and to put a focus on combating summer learning loss, Sandusky City Schools will provide a link on our district website and on our newly released Sandusky City Schools’ app that will lead to more information about summer learning activities. For additional questions you can contact our Marketing and Communications Department at MARKETING@SCS-K12.NET

Additionally, this year we are launching a summer literacy and learning project for high school students— “A Universe of Stories”.  This program was designed by our high school English teachers under the leadership of our Librarian and Media Specialist, Mrs. Elizabeth Wells. High School and Middle School students are also encouraged to participate in all activities outlined in the Sandusky Library Summer Learning guide.

Earlier this year, we unveiled Sandusky City Schools’ Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math (STEAM) Educational vision.  Thanks to the generous support of the Frohman Family and Sandusky residents, our Sidney Frohman Planetarium was renovated and it remains in the forefront of cutting edge technology with new capabilities to advance science and technology for 21st Century Learning. Sandusky City Schools is happy to share that we will be providing additional summer programming through our partnership with Sandusky Library to expand our summer shows that are open to the public.

As Chief Academic Officer, I am committed to continuing the efforts put forward to ensure that every child in the district has access to a robust learning experience that can help them on the journey to “academic fitness” while advancing pride, traditions, and excellence.

In closing, I offer my appreciation to every parent or guardian who has selected Sandusky City Schools as a partner to help their child realize their dreams. If you have questions regarding summer programming please feel free to contact my office at (419) 984- 1020 or VCADE@SCS-K12.NET.  I hope everyone has a great summer of learning!

Dr. Vilicia Cade
