March 2024 - Sandusky Aquatic Center Update

Crews have been working hard and progress has continued steadily on the Sandusky Aquatic Center project. The photos below show some recent work that has occurred. This includes:

- the removal of the deep-end deck looking from the west.
- excavation is taking place for a new foundation next to the shallow-end deck
- the removal of the deep-end deck looking from the north.
- the foundation and new columns in the pool area to hold up the roof.

We are excited to share these photos and are confident that we have a great team working together on this project.

Sandusky Aquatic Center Project

The next largest facilities project the district will be undertaking in partnership with the Sandusky Education Foundation is the Sandusky Aquatic Center Project. Sandusky City Schools Swimming Program celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2022 and the current pool is deteriorating quickly. In collaboration with Sandusky City Schools, the Sandusky Education Foundation is raising funds to build a new aquatic center at the high school for the next 100 years of Blue Streaks swimming.

The new Sandusky Aquatic Center is an amazing opportunity for our community for recreation and aquatic health classes as well as swimming lessons and water safety skills. The district is committed to three core values of the project: promoting district aquatic programs, providing community programming, and providing swim lessons and water safety.

Building Better Dreams Building Program

Sandusky City Schools completed the $70 million 'Building Better Dreams Facilities Project' in January 2022. As a result of this facilities project, three brand new state-of-the-art elementary schools opened their doors to students. Sandusky Intermediate School (3rd through 6th grade) and Sandusky Primary School (1st and 2nd grade) opened their doors in the Fall of 2021, and the Sandusky Early Learning Academy (Preschool and Kindergarten) opened in January 2022. Additionally, major updates were completed to the SHS Auditorium, Room 300 and 301 at SMS, SMS and SHS Science Labs update, Sidney Frohman Planetarium upgrades, new windows at SHS, and renovations to the new Sandusky Career Center (previously Venice Heights Elementary School). This project would not have been possible without the support of the entire Sandusky community.
