PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
The Sandusky City Schools Preschool Program serves children three to five years of age. Each classroom includes an equal mix of typically developing children, and children with special needs. The typically developing children, referred to as peer models, are an integral part of the preschool program as they demonstrate age appropriate communication, planning and self-help skills. The Preschool Program is staffed by teachers licensed by the Ohio Department of Education and follows a developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with the State of Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards. We believe it is important to provide a safe and nurturing setting in which to foster each child’s self-help, motor, language, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Each classroom has a lead and assistant teacher who guide children in varied learning experiences. These activities are primarily child-oriented and child-directed. The overall goal is to foster, a positive sense of their own self-worth and a belief in their own ability to learn and grow as capable, independent individuals.

1. What types of preschool programs are offered by Sandusky City Schools?
Early Childhood Education Programs (ECE) and preschool center based programs are offered.
2. How does my child qualify for enrollment into an ECE Program?
Children must be 3 years old and potty trained. They must also meet Federal poverty guidelines.
3. How does my child qualify for enrollment into a center based classroom?
In Ohio, preschool is required for three to five-year old children with disabilities. Within each class, eight students are identified as students with a disability. The other eight students are model peers and must pass a developmental screening before placement.
4. Does the district provide transportation for children in preschool?
All Preschool students are now transported to Preschool.
5. What documentation do I need for Preschool Registration?
Applicants are required to submit an application packet including: birth certificate, immunization record, yearly physical, legal or custody documents, two proofs of income, parent ID, and proof of residency.
6. How much is preschool tuition?
Currently Sandusky City Schools Preschools are tuition free.
7. I submitted all the application materials and my child did not get accepted to the preschool.
Sandusky City Schools has a limited number of seats in its preschool program. As applications are received they are date and time stamped if all required documents are included, and students are placed on a first come first serve basis.
8. What happens if my child did not get a seat in a Sandusky City School preschool classroom?
Students are placed on a waiting list in the order they submitted completed application materials. In rare cases when students do not attend or if they withdraw, open seats are filled by students on the waiting list.
9. How can I increase my chances of having my child accepted to the Sandusky City Schools Preschool Program?
