District Report Card

Our Story

As you know there is a renaissance underway in the City of Sandusky that is wide sweeping and contagious! Our story is about Building Better Dreams and engaging our students and families. We are focusing on three strategic initiatives for this year, continued academic improvement, behavioral and social emotional learning initiatives for students and families, and community support and parent involvement. We believe this is a historic time for our city and ours schools. We are poised to provide a new generation of leaders for the community. Our schools are central to our future success. With the release of the Ohio Department of Education School and District Report Card grades Thursday, September 13th, it affirms that Sandusky City Schools’ CEO’s
vision for Transformation is well underway and in step with the greater transformational efforts taking place in Sandusky City.

The Transformation Plan is a “visionary and ambitious” strategic plan. These efforts have been validated by the significant gains that are highlighted on the Sandusky City Schools’ District Report Card 2017- 2018. We invite the greater Sandusky community and Blue Streak Family to celebrate the achievements of our students and continue our journey to transform every child, in every classroom, at every school, to achieve excellence.

What is the Ohio School Report Card?

overall district grade“Ohio School Report Cards give your community a clear picture of the progress of your district and schools in raising achievement and preparing students for the future. The information measures district and school performance in the areas most critical to success in learning. Ohio School Report Cards data shows educators, school administrators, and families where their schools are succeeding as well as areas where they need to improve.”

- This year we are celebrating many milestones for our district. There is still plenty of work to be done but we are on the right path to success for every student in our district.
gap closingGap Closing F to B
“The Gap Closing component shows how well schools are meeting the performance expectations for our most vulnerable students in English language arts, math, graduation and English language proficiency.” -ODE
Schools must close the achievement gaps that exist between groups of students that may be based on income, race, ethnicity or disability.
- Sandusky High School is closing these gaps at rates not typically seen in high schools in our area.
- This ties directly with our innovative programs like the Sandusky Career Center and Sandusky Digital Academy. This also is in tandem with efforts of our High School and Middle School who have programs such as a ‘score card’ to help guide students to graduation.
progressProgress D to B
“The Progress component looks closely at the growth that all students are making based on their past performances.” - ODE
This is a huge improvement from previous year. We are moving in the right direction. We are on the right track to keep moving positively and help grow all of our students. Our students are surrounded by adults who use their collective efforts to help students reach their hopes and aspirations. Caring is embedded in our community as well as our school district and it shows.
- Sandusky High School received an “A” for progress
- All of the subcategories of progress also received "A"s

Overall Value-Added

- Receiving an “A” in this section simply proves that the district is constantly progressing in a positive direction for our students, especially when it comes to academics.
gifted students
Overall Gifted Students measures the progress for students identified as gifted in reading, math, science, and/or superior cognitive ability.
- Our Regional Center for Advanced Academic Studies is playing a key role in helping our gifted students grow and reach their greatest potential.
