Happy New Year! 

I hope you all were able to enjoy your holiday season with family and friends.  I also hope it was a nice homecoming for those out-of-towners who were able to come home to

Sandusky and enjoy its small-town charm at this time of year. I personally enjoyed the lights throughout the town- so many awesome displays!

Often with a new year it brings change and it has with the SHS Alumni Association. I am happy and honored to have stepped into the role of President as I have been serving as Secretary for the past several years. Past president Trevor has decided to step away from the role and we thank him for his years of service. Trevor has always been a wonderful Blue Streak and will be forever!

Also new to their roles on the board are Vice President, Tom Sharrah, and Secretary, Stephanie Schlett. They are both highly active in Sandusky City School programs and will be excellent assets to our association. Treasurer John Nejedly has graciously agreed to continue being our treasurer. We as a board are looking forward to serving our alumni population and show our support to the current students of SHS as much as possible.

We will continue to share current happenings in our schools and with our alumni in these newsletters and on our Facebook page- Sandusky High School Alumni Association. If you haven’t already, be sure to like and follow us! We will also share any news regarding upcoming reunions and events as we receive information.

SHS Alumni President

Sandusky’s reach can be as far as your dreams can take you, and here’s a story of one such alum whose dreams have taken him far: 

Sean Bittinger, a member of the SHS Class of 1999, has built an interesting and successful career in technology arts and special effects (VFX) in San Francisco, CA.  He may be far from home but not our hearts.

In 2003, Sean earned a BA in Media Technology and Arts from Denison University in Granville, OH and moved to San Francisco to begin his career.  After a couple years in the computer tech field at various SF companies, he landed his dream job at ILM (Industrial Light and Magic, the premier VFX studio division of Lucas Films, later bought by Disney.)  

Sean’s career at ILM took him through the ranks of VFX roles (graphics, tech directing, and compositing) for films such as Avatar, Avengers, Black Panther, Deep Water Horizon, Ready Player One, Star Trek, Star Wars, Unbroken….the extensive list goes on and on.  (Look for his name to roll by in the end credits of these movies, or to see a demo reel of some of Sean’s past VFX work, go to vimeo.com/284265073 or visit his IMDb.com page for a full list of his film projects.)  

Sean more recently moved to Microsoft & Arcturus Studios as a technical artist and product specialist in virtual reality production.  If asked what drives him, he would likely respond, “I’ve always had a good work ethic, but ultimately, if 12-year old Sean would ‘high-five’ present day Sean, it’s a win – because, seriously, who wouldn’t want to create cool effects for the big screen and play with new technology and computers all day!”

Since 1991, the Sandusky High School Alumni Association has awarded college scholarships to outstanding SHS graduates.  Membership dues are the primary source of funding for these awards.  The organization is proud to share that $91.827.00 have been granted in the past 33 years.  This year we are happy to announce that three seniors were awarded SHSAA Scholarships.  If you are not currently a member, please consider joining our organization!  SHSAA Membership Application

MALINOVSKI AWARD - James Peugeot 

 The Malinovski Award is awarded to a senior boy who has demonstrated academic excellence, athletic prowess, citizenship sensitivity, leadership capabilities, and exemplary character.  The 2023 Malinovski Awardee is James Peugeot.
